Common Area – hеlps establish hierarchy designers group elements by outlining or setting the same background color for the connected elements. It allows users to effectively navigate the dеsign and understand where to look for the information they need.

Benefits of common areas in UI/UX design

The common area principle, beyond simple visual grouping, increases scanability by cutting down on visual noise and allowing users to process information more quickly, particularly when dealing with difficult interfaces that have many content blocks.

It gives positive support to visual hierarchy, for it directs which elements are to be grouped, and this way, it reduces confusion and the exertion of mental power during navigation.

In UX practice, common areas are very much applied in forms, dashboards, cards, etc. for the purpose of segregating related controls, data sets, or actions.

This principle, when used along with spacing, borders, and subtle background contrasts, not only makes the design more user-friendly but also increases the overall task completion rates and makes it a point that users can, with or without instructions, discover the relationships between the interface elements.
