Static Discharge Definition

Static Discharge

Static discharge: The release of accumulated static electricity. This is one of the few effects through which a human could do damage or render hardware unusable, metallurgically. A good antistatic wrist strap or grounding loop can provide protection from this.

Static electricity can only prove to be dangerous when provoked by the fall of voltage on a device’s body, which was then disconnected from the mains. In this case, it would be possible to accumulate a lot of charge hence giving shocking sensations to a person.

This possibly leads to burns or even numbing of limbs that have been in contact with a device for some microsecond. Perhaps the worst possible outcome that might occur is the burning of capacitors or breaking of their settings in case there is a presence of static near radiosensitive parts located in devices or appliances including but not limited to radiators, TV remotes, LED strip lights, etc.
