Criticality Analysis Definition

Criticality Analysis

Criticality Analysis is a systematic examination applied to certain elements regarding their importance, impact, and potential failures. The requirements for performance, reliability, and security of the system are particularly significant. The key factors which have to be considered in this area of criticality are: the importance of functions/services to system operation, failure or interruption criticality, links existing between parts of a system, necessary measures for proper mitigation.

This is a correlation of the levels of impact on these threats so that an organization will be in a position to prioritize its resources and put in place strategies that will manage and mitigate the risks in an effective manner. Such standard techniques for criticality analysis include but are not limited to Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Risk Assessment Matrix (RAM). The ways remain useful in finding out the way the system can be made vulnerable hence improvisation can be made for enhancing security.
