CP/M Definition
CP/M, first standing for Control Program/Monitor and later for Control Program for Microcomputers, is an operating system that entered the mass market in 1974 as part of the Intel 8080/85 microcomputers. Originally released as a closed source now operates as open source, it is at its core a disk operating system.
The reason for utilization is organization of files placed on a magnetic storage device, loading and executing programs. During its initial release it was only meant for 8-bit processors and single-task use at tops 64 kilobytes memory and over the years expanded to 16-bit variations and multi-users options.
