Baud Rate Definition

Baud Rate

Baud rate, measured in bauds (Bd), is describing the number of signal changes as well as the amount of symbols that has the ability to be transmitted every second. With baud rates indicating the speed at which data can be communicated between devices it is a natural conclusion that higher rates are leading to faster and more efficient transmissions.

Baud rates are significantly intertwined with a term bandwidth with the former indicating how much latter is required for seamless transmission of signals. Notably the name “baud” originates from a French engineer Émile Baudot which developed this system.
