Demodulate Definition

Demodulate

Demodulate – is the extraction of original information or data signals from a modulated carrier wave. It is vital to the working of myriads of communication systems, therefore, in this process, recovering transmitted data in such a way that it could be later interpreted or processed by need. This is realized by undoing the operations of modulation, filtering, amplification, and further processing of the received signal so that the desired information signal may be restored while other interfering signals and noise are eliminated.

This, in turn, uses various kinds of demodulation techniques depending on the kind of modulation adopted, namely amplitude modulation (AM), frequency modulation (FM), or phase modulation (PM). In this respect, due to the receiver and decoder of a given signal in radio broadcasting, wireless networks, and digital data transmission in general, demodulation leads to a situation whereby means have been found for accurate recovery of such data and further interpretation by the receiving devices.
