Bandwidth Definition
Bandwidth can be described as the maximum possible amount of data that is transmitted through the web and is measured in units like bytes, kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes per second. Users have the opportunity to utilize symmetric and asymmetric types of bandwidth. The difference between them is that in the first case the upload and download speed are the same while in the other they vary.
The speed of the Internet can’t be higher than the limitation of bandwidth, however, it happens to be even lower when a certain network is shared between numerous users. That’s why when a lot of people are connected to the same WIFI at a time, the speed of the Internet declines. There are possible opportunities to widen the bandwidth, including such means as better tariffs, direct connection to the web through optical fibre and, for businesses, dedicated bandwidth.
