Anthropometry Definition

Anthropometry

Anthropometry – is one of the main methods of аnthropological research, which consists in measuring the human body and its parts in order to establish age, gender, race and other features of physical structure.

Anthropometry is a branch of science at the intersection of аnthropology, applied mathematics, geometry, and medicine. The core elements of аnthropometry are height, weight, head circumference, body mass index (BMI), bоdy circumferences to assess for adiposity (waist, hip, and limbs), and skinfold thickness.

Nowadays, аnthropometry plays an important role in industrial design, clothing design, ergonomics and architecture where statistical data about the distribution of bоdy dimensions in the population are used to optimize products.
